Calling All Home Brewers!

The Lee’s Summit Chamber and Grains & Taps are partnering together to present the 2016 Lee’s Summit Oktoberfest People’s Choice Home Brew Competition. Oktoberfest attendees can partake in a tasting event  from noon-3 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 24 in the Biergarten while participating home brewers serve up samples of their best brews! To enter this battle of the brews, home brewers need to complete the registration form and commit to supplying a 5-gallon keg (or bottle equivalent) of a home-brewed beer. Brewers may submit up to two types of beer if they choose. Participants will serve their brews to attendees who will cast their votes for the best of the lot.Prizes will be awarded for the top three home breweries from the day. Participating teams receive two tasting glasses and brat coupons. Tickets and tasting glasses go on sale to the public for $20 each in August and can be purchased at LSoktoberfest.com.

First Friday featured artist Katie Carruthers : Ruse and Reality

Join Lee’s Summit artist, Katie Carruthers for her Solo Show, Ruse and Reality, at Vulpes Bastille during First Friday, September 02, 2016. The gallery is located downtown KC, at 1737 Locust Street. The show will feature her interdisciplinary works including paintings, installation and fibers. Selected works highlight the artist’s connection to nature and current focus revolving around authenticity and its role in our society.   “Seeking genuineness transcends as a dual quest; in art and in life.”

Powell Gardens Announces New Executive Director

After conducting a nationwide search, the Board of Directors of Powell Gardens has selected Tabitha Schmidt as Executive Director. She will succeed Eric Tschanz who is assuming the role of Vice Chairman until his retirement in September 2017. Ms. Schmidt will join Powell Gardens on August 8, 2016.
