Online blogs give writers an opportunity to share their words with a world-wide audience. We enjoy introducing our readers to local bloggers we think they might enjoy following.
Lee’s Summit Lifestyle: Tell us a little bit about yourself.
Courtney Hill: I am a wife and mother of twins. I have a master’s degree in family and consumer sciences and taught high school FCS for four years before deciding to stay home. I grew up in a smaller Missouri town and I learned to cook mostly from my mom who learned from her mom. I’m a Midwest girl through and through. My style of cooking is simple and country kitchen approved.
LSL: When did you start blogging?
CH: January 2015
LSL: Why did you start blogging?
CH: To have a creative outlet and to help others learn to cook. I love teaching people and having fun, so I hope those who see my blog learn something and are entertained.
LSL: Who is the target audience for your blog?
CH: Anyone who loves good, simple food but doesn’t necessarily live to cook. My recipes are easy to follow, even for beginners, and don’t take all day to make.
LSL: Where do you get the inspiration for your posts?
CH: From my mother and all the recipes I had growing up, from my teaching days and the recipes we used in class, from Pinterest and sometimes from my own brain! Once you understand the basics of cooking it pretty simple to adapt recipes and figure out what will taste good.
LSL: What’s been the most popular/viewed post on your blog to date?
CH: My “Easter Feaster” post, where I show how to make ham, gravy, mashed potatoes and deviled eggs.
LSL: What’s your favorite local restaurant/family attraction?
CH: Two of my favorites aren’t strictly local but they aren’t found everywhere. Freddy’s Frozen Custard, right here in Lee’s Summit, has the best burgers and shoestring fries ever and they serve amazing frozen custard. RA Sushi in Leawood is my husband and I’s go-to date night spot. The best sushi I’ve ever had, anywhere!
LSL: What else do you want us to know?
CH: I have an Etsy shop and a booth at Ugly Class and Company in the West Bottoms where I sell my handmade bags and various items. I’m a crafty girl who loves to sew, cook and create. Ever since I was a kid I wanted to have my own cooking show. I named it “Cooking with Courtney” and I even had a theme song all written out. I think I provide an entertaining and educational view on cooking and I’d love to know that I was helping others learn to cook and enjoy the process. This blog is my version of “Cooking with Courtney” and I hope that you all watch, read and then do! CountryKitchenApproved.Blogspot.com
