Tell us a bit about your church.

We are a church that welcomes all with open arms. As a friendly, accepting and nonjudgmental fellowship of believers, we strive to impact the community around us for the glory of Christ. At SSCC we are dedicated to worshipping, praying and growing together in faith. We encourage individuals from all walks of life to “Join the WAVE” at SSCC: expecting to feel Welcomed, Accepted, Valued and Embraced.

What are some of the missions you are involved with?

At SSCC, we are unified in numerous service and outreach programs throughout our city and beyond. Locally, we support Lee’s Summit Social Services with periodic food drives; we participate yearly in the “Red Bag” program to provide foster children with Christmas presents; we participate in Relay for Life and in The Polar Plunge. We are pleased to be a partner in education with Hawthorne Hill Elementary School. We also provide support to an orphanage in Belarus, Russia, and our youth and adults engage in mission trips locally, nationally and internationally. We welcome everyone in the community to join us in our missions.

Tell us about some of your programs.

We hold weekly Sunday school classes for children, youth and adults beginning at 9 a.m. Our young children are welcome to remain in church throughout the Sunday service or attend Children’s Church. Our active youth program, involving grades 6-12, meets weekly on Wednesday nights. The women of our congregation gather for food, fun and fellowship at our First Friday lunches and our men’s Bible study meets every Friday at 11 a.m.  Throughout the year, we offer a host of events including Vacation Bible School, an Easter Egg hunt, an Early Sunrise Easter Service, a Christmas Eve service, a Family Fun Fest, adult dinners for 8, college age and young adult social/mission events in addition to a sweetheart dinner/dance/auction.  We offer something for all ages. Coming in December of this year, we are excited to launch the “Road to Bethlehem” – a live, drive-through nativity scene.

What can people expect when visiting your church?

Our congregation is comprised of some of the friendliest people you’ll meet. Our desire is to create a sense of belonging to all who walk through our doors. At SSCC, you can expect to find a casual dress environment as well as coffee and donuts served before our 10 a.m. contemporary-style worship service. Wherever you find yourself in your journey of faith, we hope that you and your family feel encouraged and loved by our community at SSCC. If you’re searching for a place to feel Welcomed, Accepted, Valued and Embraced, we encourage you to “Join the WAVE” at SSCC!
