Fourth graders at Underwood Elementary recently created 140 Christmas cards to go to American and Canadian soldiers serving around the world. Through Operation
EK Success and K&Company, businesses specializing in scrapbooking materials, donated supplies for the cards to the Underwood fourth- grade classes. In addition, General Alex Duckworth spoke to fourth graders about serving with the armed forces as part of the community service project. Duckworth shared with the students the positive impact Christmas cards have on men and women serving overseas away from their families.
Operation Christmas Cards is based in Shrewsbury, Mass., and was initiated in 2009. The organization’s goal is to send at least 100,000 cards to service men and women this holiday season.
